Single Point of Access (SPA) manages patient referrals from health professionals into all community mental health services. It is part of a centralised referral, and assessment allocation for the city. The SPA will triage all referrals to determine the need and urgency for assessment. In order to be referred to or access the service, an individual must be between 18 and 65 years of age and registered with a GP practice in the City of Sheffield.

Referrals are accepted from GPs who are part of Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust. Referrals can also be made through other health or social care professionals, housing, voluntary sector, relatives or by the individual in need. It is important to note that all referrals enter the system and are triaged depending on need so a self referral does not necessarily mean an individual will be seen quicker.

SPA work alongside the Out-of-Hours Team to provide crisis support to the people of Sheffield 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
