SACMHA is a charitable organisation that was set up in 1988 in response to the mental health needs of people of African or Caribbean descent. They now support anyone from any BAME (Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic) background. At present they offer support to people in need of health and social care assistance because of their age, youth, disability, financial hardship or social disadvantage.

The services that are offered include:

  • Self-Directed Support
  • Carers’ Support
  • Health Projects

  • Hospital Advocacy
  • Community Outreach

Covid update Nov 2020: SACMHA are also currently running a ‘Call and Chat’ service for members of the African Caribbean community who are self-isolating due to Covid, or isolated for any reason.  To request a Call & Chat please send details to: admin@sacmha.org.uk One of their staff will be in touch.

SACMHA aims to provide a range of culturally appropriate services to anyone over the age of 18 in the local and surrounding area. People can self refer, or can be referred by a friend, relative or other healthcare professional. There is a charge for most services which is usually paid through individual budgets.
