  • anyone who is concerned about a young person

They will listen in confidence and try to help you deal with your own suicidal thoughts or support someone else who may be feeling this way.  You can also access this service by emailing  pat@papyrus-uk.org or text 07860 039967.

The helpline (phone, email and text) is open:

  • Weekends and Bank Holidays 2.00 – 10.00pm

Papyrus also provide information, advice, support and resources on their website alongside delivering training in suicide awareness and intervention.

Do you need help right now?

You need emergency help if you have already taken steps to end your life or if your thoughts of suicide are particularly intense right now and you feel unable to stay safe from suicide.

To get emergency help, you can visit your local A&E department (in Sheffield, this is the Northern General Hospital) or call NHS 111 (England, Scotland, N. Ireland), NHS Direct (Wales)* or 999 and ask for some support.

NHS 111 Direct can advise you about where to get help such as a walk-in centre or an out of hours doctor. They may also have information about ‘safe spaces’ you can access in your local area when you are struggling to stay safe from suicide.

You can also call the Samaritans on 116 123 or text SHOUT to 85258

999 can support you in an emergency too, the operator can talk to you about different types of immediate support the emergency services can offer.
