Overeaters Anonymous (OA) uses the Twelve Step programme of recovery to support people who are dealing with compulsive eating and compulsive food behaviours. The group is for anyone with who has issues with food, whether that be overeating, binging, purging, anorexia or bulimia.
OA is not a diet and calories club, nor do they endorse any particular plan of eating. They practice ‘abstinence’ by refraining from compulsive eating and compulsive food behaviours, whilst working towards a healthy body weight. They do this by practising the Twelve Step programme of recovery, one day at a time.
There is no need to register beforehand to attend a group – you can simply turn up. You can contact the registed OA number on the meeting page if you have any questions or would like to meet up with someone before the meeting. Each OA group is self supporting so there are no fees to join.
Group meetings in Sheffield can be searched via their website. Like other 12 step groups, they also have telephone and online meetings.
