Re-engage (formerly Contact the Elderly) is a national charity dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation among older people. They connect older, lonely people with local volunteers who want to make their lives a bit better. They do this by establishing groups that gather once a month on a Sunday.
Sheffield Groups
Re-engage currently have four groups in Sheffield.
Members need to be 75 years or older, living by themselves and feeling isolated and lonely. Each group is fairly small, with several ‘older members’ and 3-4 regular volunteer drivers. The groups meet at the home of one of Re-engage’s volunteers and enjoy an afternoon together. The groups are ideally suited to those that struggle to get out by themselves, and enjoy socialising in a friendly, welcoming environment with a small group of people, of varying ages. Participation for members is free and they are not expected to host gatherings themselves.

Call Companions
During the pandemic, Re-engage have started a new project called Call Companions. This is a free service for elderly individuals who live alone and would like a regular phone call every 1-2 weeks. To access this service, fill in the online form.
